Energizing Hazelnut Milk Breakfast Bowl: Elanor's Pilates Power-Up
When my friend Elanor, a dedicated Pilates instructor, invited me to join her for an early morning session by St Kilda Beach, I had no idea I’d leave with a recipe that would change my mornings forever.
Elanor is someone who embodies balance, both in her life and in the way she nourishes herself. She’s always on the go, teaching classes, motivating others, and somehow finding time to share her knowledge about wellness. One morning, after an intense Pilates workout, she whipped up a quick breakfast that was as nourishing as it was delicious.
“You have to try this,” she said, placing a bowl in front of me with a knowing smile. “It’s my hazelnut milk power bowl – perfect for energy, but light enough to keep you moving.”
The fresh breeze from St Kilda Beach, the soft golden light of dawn, and this vibrant, nutty breakfast—it was a moment of pure contentment. And now, I’m passing it on to you!
ingredients:
- 1 cup hazelnut milk
- ½ cup rolled oats
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)
- ½ banana, sliced
- A handful of mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1 tablespoon crushed hazelnuts
- A sprinkle of cinnamon
- A few mint leaves for garnish
Directions:
1. Prepare the base: The night before, combine the hazelnut milk, rolled oats, and chia seeds in a bowl. Stir well and refrigerate overnight to allow the oats and chia seeds to soak up the hazelnut milk, creating a creamy, nutrient-dense base.
2. Assemble the bowl: In the morning, take the mixture out of the fridge and give it a good stir. If you like a touch of sweetness, add a teaspoon of maple syrup and mix it in.
3. Top with energy boosters: Slice the banana and layer it on top of the oats, followed by a handful of mixed berries. Sprinkle the crushed hazelnuts and cinnamon over the top.
4. Garnish and serve: Add a few fresh mint leaves for a pop of colour and freshness. Enjoy by the beach—or wherever you find your morning calm.
Why It Works:
This breakfast bowl is packed with slow-burning energy from the oats and chia seeds, while the hazelnut milk adds a creamy, nutty flavour without the heaviness of dairy. The banana and berries provide natural sweetness and antioxidants, while the hazelnuts and cinnamon add a satisfying crunch and warm spice.
Elanor swears by it before every busy day, and after trying it for myself, I can see why. It’s energizing, easy, and just a little indulgent—perfect for starting the day with balance.
